...I was very impressed by the aryballoi and the alabastron. I particularly love the Caledonian hunt and the satyr, in fact I use the satyr aryballos to hold my shaving oil (a mix of olive and cedar essential oils). And I love the (Heracles) kylix, I've used it many times. Marc Auger, CANADA

Thanks USPS for a great job! Julia
Salve Iulia! The pottery absolutely, positively got here on time (10 minutes to spare) and all went well. This is going to be one of my favorite units, although there's NO WAY I'm letting the students handle that lamp! Thanks so much! Sue Verzella, The Time Traveler New Jersey USA |
December 18, 2009 (Customer called in upon receipt of a Mastos Cup, Ram's Head Rhyton, and Pythia Plate) "I am so blown away by the quality of these pieces that I was almost in tears. The only other place where I've seen this kind of quality is in a museum!" "My appraiser, who deals with a lot of antique artifacts, gave you very high marks." Ann W. Virginia USA |

June 18, 2009 Dear Julia, My only disappointment is no one's fault but my own. I thought that I'd ordered a Lesbian Wine amphora. You priced it for me--I apparently forgot to say "yes." Yikes. At any rate, colour me absolutely satisfied, delighted, and impressed. Christian Cameron, author. Toronto, Ontario CANADA |

In this day and age, you often get what the store sells you and nothing
more. (John ordered several
pieces, among them a Greek
kylix with Dionysos on the inside, a
Dokana Plate, a Greek
Shield Plate as well as a Corinthian
reproduction oil lamp.) |

I plan on placing another order in a couple of weeks. Best regards, Lorie Ann Hambly computercountryla.com California USA |

Last summer, I asked Julia to help me with a Greek canteen and drinking cup. All she had to work with was a couple of mediocre photographs I was able to get from Osprey's "The Greek Hoplite" and "The Spartan Army". Not only was she great to work with, her prices were amazing for the amount of work I know she put into the items and the end result was stunning to say the least. Ive done a fair amount of work with people who do custom work, and I will definatly say she is by far one of the best out there. Michelle Hildebrant USA |

Fri Sep 05, 2008 4:42 pm Post subject: Roman Canteen w/net carrier
I just received my canteen with net carrier from Venetian Cat. I had seriously been considering the Deepeeka canteen, but procrastinated because I wasn't sure if I wanted it, and I thought that there had to be something authentic and better out there. I was right. Julia, I really like my Terra Sigillata canteen. After I prep it in water, I'll dress it a little with some bead work. It really is "too cool." You'll be getting more business from me in the future. I'm taking it to Roman Days. Thanks again. T.Fabius Rufio/Jeff Crean |

Fri Jul 25, 2008 11:48 pm I too must report my delight with my latest order. When the "camel train" dropped off the box yesterday I was quite excited (and a tad apprehensive, as a corner of the box was crushed. But Julia's a superb packer as well as potter: all the pieces arrived in perfect shape, and now my only concern is finding an adequate way to display it all. Terra Sigillata's always a tactile pleasure: the surface feels almost alive and, on a hot day, keeps a cup of wine nice and cool. There are many aspects of reenactment that lend the feeling of "being there" in ancient Rome; dining on period pottery is one of the greatest pleasures. Tue Jul 01, 2008 10:26 am This is a long-term review of Julia's wares. I purchased an Augustan plate, bowl and cup as a set about four years ago and have used them regularly ever since. The pottery has travelled with me to encampments and dinners. I used to transport it in bubble wrap, but hated the anachronism, so nowadays they're cushioned with a napkin or two. They've held up remarkably well. I also have a set of silver cochlear spoons that I use with the pottery, and they've imparted nice wear marks on the plate and bowl. Care of unsealed pottery takes a little getting used to: one other reason I abandoned the bubble wrap was that the dishware tended to grow moldy if I wrapped it up in plastic after washing the pieces! I've learned to air dry the pieces thoroughly after washing, either by setting them out in a sunny spot or by placing them on a rack in a warm over. The pieces definitely need to breathe! I have had repeated compliments on Julia's fine workmanship, and people love to handle the pieces. The burnished surface feels like a living thing, and is often faintly warm to the touch. I absolutely love my terra sigillata dishware, and am buying another
set for insurance, lest I break mine. It is such a pleasure to re-create
ancient recipes and consume them off the same type of pottery that the
Romans themselves so highly prized. USA |

Mon Jun 30, 2008 10:06 pm Post subject: Another satisfied customer Today, I received one of Julia's wonderful products, RM 1015, the Water Vessel for Soldier's Kit. I took advantage of her enticing sale, and can not be happier. Clearly, when my optio is driving me on yet another forced march, I don't have to worry about dehydration. Should I mention the service is fast and efficient? Okay, it is. Again, thank you Julia. |

Sun Oct 14, 2007 7:12 am Hi Julia! The canteen was retrieved, intact, and it is really a great piece of work! Sorry I took so long to post this, but i have been on the road since I picked it up, and have just arrived home again last night. The only pity is I am going to have to cover it up in a sheep skin cover to make sure it doesn't get broken! Once I have primed it, that is. I showed it off to the guys at training, and they were pretty impressed i think! Regards Byron Legio XIIII GMV. (Q. Magivs)RMRS Remember Atuatuca! Vengence will be ours! Well made. And extremely beautiful workmanship. As always I get the feel that it is an ancient artifact that I am handling whenever I work with Julia's creations. She really is a great craftsperson to deal with and I look forward to figuring out the next item I will be buying from her in the future. Always a pleasure doing business with you.
